Hello,
I saw that it is possible te encrypt DXL files but apparently you cannot execute an encrypted file from DOORS menu, am i right?
My goal is to publish script in a custom menu in my DOORS toolbar (via the addins folder) but i don't want the users to read those scripts, so i was thinking to encrypt them.
But if it's not possible to execute encrypted DXL files, can i customize my DOORS toolbar so that only some users can see my new menu containing my scripts?
Thanks

You need two files: Put all your DXL in the first file and encrypt it, and use a second, un-encrypted file which just #includes the encrypted file.

Peter

OK I see thank you.
But i didn't succeed to encrypt a file.
I open the DXL editor in DOORS and I put :
Folder doors
doors = folder "C:/DOORS"
end_user_protdxl.exe "MetricCalcul.dxl" > "MetricCalculEncrypted.dxl"
The encryption tool is in C:/DOORS, put the previous code doesn't work.
Can you help me with the synthax please?

See the attached DOORS Encryption Tool readme file which states:
To encrypt a DXL file:
The first three bytes of the DXL file that you want to encrypt must be:
//<
If these characters are missing DOORS will not be able to execute the DXL.
Hope this helps.

Oh OK, I see that this tool isn't working with DOORS 9.1 (which I'm using!)
Do you know how can I crypt my file?

You can doqnload the 9.1 encrypt tool from https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/download.do?lang=en_US&source=RATL-RATIONAL&S_PKG=CR84FEN&cp=UTF-8 (IBM ID needed).

Thank a lot.
Last question : We are upgrading to the 9.3 soon, the encryption tool is included right?

v9.0 was a Telelogic release, v9.1 was an IBM release and they changed the encryption. v93 uses the same encryption as v9.1.

Hello,
Is there any other method to perform the encryption other than using the tool. For Eg. can I encrypt the file using other programming languages(encryption technique like MD5, or so) and can I include in the unencrypted one??

Hello,
Is there any other method to perform the encryption other than using the tool. For Eg. can I encrypt the file using other programming languages(encryption technique like MD5, or so) and can I include in the unencrypted one??
For starters: MD5 is a hash algorithm not an encryption. DOORS only supports its native encryption algorithm, i.e. it will only be able to include DXL files that are encrypted with this special algorithm. As far as I know, DOORS 9.1 broke backward compatibility, that is, DOORS 8 encrypted files will not run on DOORS 9.1+.
Why would you not want to use the command line tool? You can invoke a command line tool from any language, so even if you could reproduce the encryption algorithm in another language, why would you?

I was just trying to understand how the encryption tool works. Trying to understand whether there is any other means to get the encrypted file without using the standard DOORS Encryption tool.
The reason, why I was trying to find out is that, since *.inc file is a generic file and not specific to DXL Scripting.

As far as I know the encryption in DOORS 9.1+ is a blowfish encryption with a fixed 8 Byte block length. In earlier versions it was also an 8 Byte block cipher, but I could not identify the algorithm. Additionally the have a simple run length encoding, so sometimes the DXL files shrink on encoding if you have a lot of repeating characters.
Therefore it is not straight forward to reimplement the encryption, after all you would need the keys and extracting them from the client would probably not be legal. Therefore I don't know if it would be legal to implement such a tool, even if you knew algorithm and key. Regards, Mathias

Any ideas why the un-encrypted file doesn't show up in the menu; If I run the encrypted file directly with an "include" it works, any thoughts?
